Headset spacers are more important than most people think and serve 2 helpful functions. First, use spacers to take up the extra space so you don’t have to cut your fork.  This way, you can use your fork on another frame when you need to. In most cases, this can save you the cost of a new fork. Second, use spacers to adjust your handlebar height if you need it.  Always be careful to insure that the top tube of your fork comes all the way through your stem and up to the top of the stem hole. Using spacers on a fork that is too short can cause your stem to weaken.
